Alejandro Zambra nasceu em Santiago, no Chile, em 1975. Bonsai, seu primeiro romance, foi traduzido em diversos países. No Chile, o livro ganhou o Prêmio da Crítica e o Prêmio do Conselho Nacional do Livro como melhor romance de 2006, ano de sua publicação.
