Antony Beevor nasceu em Winchester (Inglaterra), em 1946. Estudou em Winchester e na Academia Militar de Sandhurst, é discípulo do mais respeitado historiador britânico sobre a Segunda Guerra Mundial, John Keegan. Tornou-se oficial regular do 11º Regimento de Hussardos e deixou o exército depois de cinco anos para se tornar escritor. Publicou romances e livros de não-ficção, entre os quais Berlim 1945, Stalingrado (vencedor dos prêmios Samuel Johnson de Não-Ficção, Wolfson de História e o Hawthornden), A Batalha pela Espanha, Creta e A Segunda Guerra Mundial.
