Graham Greene was one of the greatest story-tellers of the twentieth century. O inglês Graham Greene teve uma formação ortodoxa em colégios no interior da Inglaterra, sempre se arriscando na vida literária — em poemas, artigos e contos. Como jornalista, viajou para vários lugares distantes de seu país — separados tanto pela geografia quanto pela cultura. Com passagens por países do oriente e da África, entre os anos 1950 e 1960, introduziu em seus romances um forte teor político. Recebeu inúmeros prêmios e hoje é considerado um dos autores mais importantes do romance moderno inglês.
