Georges Perec (Paris, 1936 – Ivry sur Seine, 1982) é tido, hoje, como uma das figuras preeminentes da literatura da segunda metade do século XX. Publicou sua primeira novela, As Coisas, em 1965, a qual lhe grangeou rapidamente um grande êxito, tendo sido galardoada com o prêmio Renaudot. Dois anos depois, Perec filiou-se ao OuLiPo, a Oficina de Literatura Potencial, que fora criada em 1961 por Raymond Queneau e pelo matemático Le Lionnais. Em 1978, publicou Vida, modo de usar, cujo êxito o consagrou como autor e lhe permitiu abandonar seu emprego de arquivista para se dedicar inteiramente à literatura.
