Slavoj Žižek nasceu em 1949 na cidade de Liubliana, Eslovênia. É filósofo, psicanalista e um dos principais teóricos contemporâneos. Transita por diversas áreas do conhecimento e, sob influência principalmente de Karl Marx e Jacques Lacan, efetua uma inovadora crítica cultural e política da pós-modernidade. Professor da European Graduate School e do Instituto de Sociologia da Universidade de Liubliana, Žižek preside a Society for Theoretical Psychoanalysis, de Liubliana, e é diretor internacional do Instituto de Humanidades da Universidade Birkbeck de Londres.
