Sinopse

Colum McCann's first novel goes back to the years before the Spanish Civil War, following the adventures of a peripatetic Irish photographer from the war-strewn shores of Europe to the exotic plains of Mexico. The story is told in the words of the photographer's only son, a wanderer himself, who uses his father's unreliable memories and the fading remnants of his art to piece together his family history and explain the mystery surrounding his mother - a Mexican beauty brought back by his father to Ireland. About the AuthorColum McCann was born in Dublin in 1965. His fiction has won numerous international awards including the Rooney Prize, the Ireland Fund of Monaco Princess Grace Memorial Award, a Pushcart Prize, and Esquire magazine's Writer of the Year award in 2003. In 2005 he was nominated for an Oscar for Best Short Film. He was recently inducted into the Hennessy Hall of Fame in Dublin. His work has been published in twenty-six languages. He has travelled widely and is based in New York, where he lives with his wife and children.

Começou a carreira como jornalista do Irish Press e já contribuiu com The Guardian, The Independent, La Republicca, Paris Match e The New York Times, entre outros. Seu último trabalho, Let the great world spin, lhe rendeu, em 2009, o National Book Award e foi considerado pela revista Esquire “o primeiro grande romance sobre 11 de setembro”. O livro parte da famosa travessia do equilibrista francês Philippe Petit entre as torres do World Trade Center de Nova York, em 1974, para narrar histórias fictícias de anônimos que o observavam no momento.
