Arthur Japin nasceu em Haarlem, na Holanda, em 1956. Autor de diversas peças e romances, estudou teatro em Londres e em Amsterdam. Já foi cantor de ópera e apresentador de televisão. Alguns de seus romances são considerados clássicos da literatura holandesa contemporânea. Entre eles, estão The Two Hearts of Kwasi Boachi (1997), Os olhos de Lúcia (2007), Someone Found (2007) e O homem com asas (2016), em que reelabora, em chave literária, a vida do aviador brasileiro Alberto Santos-Dumont.
