Daniel Alarcón (Lima, 1979) acostumou-se a ver o seu nome tanto nas listas dos melhores jovens autores norte-americanos (The New Yorker, Granta) quanto nas dos melhores jovens latino-americanos (Bogotá39). Criado nos Estados Unidos, descobriu tardiamente sua cultura de origem, que se tornaria um elemento central de seus livros de ficção. A Rádio Ambulante, seu projeto de jornalismo na internet, produz narrativas radiofônicas a partir de histórias da vida real enviadas por ouvintes da América Latina. Em 2007, recebeu a prestigiada bolsa de estudos Fulbright, cuja lista de agraciados passados inclui presidentes e vencedores do prêmio Nobel.
