Andrew Solomon (Nova York, 1963) dedicou-se a conhecer a vida de famílias que tiveram filhos com distúrbios sociais, culturais ou mentais, como autismo, surdez e nanismo, ou identidades que fogem às normas, como transexualismo. O resultado da pesquisa, Longe da árvore (2013), é um monumental mas sempre caloroso livro em que Solomon lança um olhar humanista para desconstruir alguns dos nossos tabus culturais e sociais mais arraigados. Autor de um importante estudo sobre a depressão, O demônio do meio-dia, que ganha nova edição brasileira pela Companhia das Letras, Solomon é também repórter da revista The New Yorker e colaborador de publicações como Newsweek e The New York Times. Ativista pró-direitos LGBT, é fundador do Solomon Research Fellowships, um programa de bolsas de estudos LGBT na Universidade de Yale.
