Harold Bloom é professor titular de Ciências Humanas, na Universidade de Yale, e já ocupou cátedra na Universidade de Harvard. Escreveu mais de 25 livros, entre os quais Hamlet: Poema Ilimitado, Gênio, Como e Por Que Ler, Shakespeare: A Invenção do Humano, O Cânone Ocidental, além de A Anatomia da Influência. Ganhou o prêmio McArthur, da Academia Norte-Americana de Letras e Artes, e recebeu inúmeras distinções e diplomas honorários, inclusive a Medalha de Ouro de Crítica e Belles Lettres, conferida pela mesma academia, o Prêmio Internacional da Catalunha e o Prêmio Alfonso Reyes, do México. Bloom nasceu em Nova York, em 11 de julho de 1930.
