Bernard Wassertstein é professor de História Judaica Europeia Moderna na Universidade de Chicago desde 2003. Lecionou nas universidades de Brandeis e Glasgow, bem como na Universidade Hebraica de Jerusalém. De 1996 a 2000, foi presidente do Centro de Estudos Hebraicos e Judaicos de Oxford. Recebeu o Prêmio Guggenheim em 2008, e de 2011 a 2012 foi membro convidado do Colegiado Sueco de Estudos Avançados da Universidade de Uppsala.
