Nathan Englander (1970, Long Island, Estados Unidos) está na lista dos “20 escritores para o século 21” da New Yorker e teve seu conto “Devotion” selecionado para figurar na antologia de 2007 da revista Granta. Pertencente à comunidade judaica ortodoxa, faz do questionamento sobre a identidade religiosa um de seus temas diletos, o que lhe garantiu comparações com escritores como Philip Roth e Isaac Bashevis Singer. Após lançar a reunião de contos Para alívio dos impulsos insuportáveis, que venceu o Prêmio pen/Malamud de 2000, o autor publicou no ano passado seu primeiro romance, The Ministry of Special Cases, que conta a história de uma família judia durante a ditadura militar na Argentina.
