A escritora Rosamunde Pilcher nasceu em 1924 na Cornualha, Inglaterra. Aos 25 anos publicou seu primeiro livro usando o pseudônimo de Jane Fraser. Somente em 1955, Pilcher passou a assinar seus livros com o nome verdadeiro e, aos 63 anos, tornou-se reconhecida mundialmente com a publicação do best seller Os catadores de conchas. Talentosa romancista e contista, suas histórias costumam tratar das complexas relações familiares, sempre ambientadas nas mais belas paisagens da Grã-Bretanha.
