E. B. White nasceu em Mont Vernon, Nova York, em 1899, e graduou-se pela Universidade Cornell. Durante muitos anos, seus artigos apareceram na revista The New Yorker. Em 1970, recebeu a medalha Laura Ingalls Wilber por seus livros infantis Stuart Little e A teia de Charlotte. Autor de livros de prosa e poesia, E. B. White foi alvo de muitas honrarias literárias importantes. Em 1973, foi eleito para a Academia Americana de Artes e Letras. Faleceu em 1985.
