O crítico cultural Terry Eagleton (1943, Salford, Inglaterra) transita entre a crítica e a criação literária e já publicou mais de uma dezena de livros e inúmeras resenhas e artigos. Sua obra de maior destaque é Teoria da literatura: uma introdução, que traça a história do estudo de textos contemporâneos, desde os românticos do século XIX até os autores pós-modernos. Em seu último trabalho, Reason, faith, and revolution: reflections on the God debate, Eagleton reúne uma série de aulas ministradas na Universidade de Yale, em 2008. Neste livro, o crítico britânico põe em xeque o racionalismo defendido pelo biólogo evolucionista Richard Dawkins e pelo jornalista Christopher Hitchens e propõe uma reflexão de cunho materialista acerca dos conceitos de razão, fé e revolução.
