Urania Cabral, a New York lawyer, returns to the Dominican Republic after a lifelong self-imposed exile. Once she is back in her homeland, the elusive feeling of terror that has overshadowed her whole life suddenly takes shape. Jornalista, dramaturgo, ensaísta e crítico literário, Mario Vargas Llosa é um escritor consagrado internacionalmente. Nascido em Arequipa, no Peru, em 1936, ganhou notoriedade literária com a publicação do premiado romance A Cidade e os Cães (1961). Mudou para Paris nos anos 60, e lecionou em diversas universidades americanas e europeias, ao longo dos anos. Com uma vasta produção literária, que inclui peças teatrais, ensaios e memórias, Vargas Llosa publicou sobretudo romances, entre eles Conversa na Catedral, Pantaleão e as Visitadoras, Tia Júlia e o Escrevinhador, A Guerra do Fim do Mundo, Quem Matou Palomino Molero? e Cartas a um Jovem Escritor. Foi vencedor dos prestigiosos prêmios Cervantes, Príncipe de Astúrias, PEN/Nabokov e Grinzane Cavour. Numa incursão ao mundo da política, candidatou-se, em 1990, à presidência do Peru, perdendo a eleição para Alberto Fujimori. O autor vive entre Londres, Paris, Madri e Lima.
