Alex Ross (1968, Washington, Estados Unidos) iniciou sua carreira no New York Times em 1992 e é crítico de música erudita na New Yorker, na qual escreve desde 1996. É conhecido pelo esforço de divulgar a música clássica entre novos ouvintes e pelo interesse por compositores pop, como Radiohead e Björk. Seu primeiro livro, O resto é ruído (2007), foi vencedor do National Book Critics Circle Award, finalista do Pulitzer e listado entre os dez melhores livros de 2007 pelo New York Times. Em 2008, recebeu a bolsa da Fundação MacArthur conhecida como “genius grant” . Ross mantém um blog, no qual publica ensaios e reúne suas críticas da New Yorker.
