Bret Easton Ellis nasceu em Los Angeles, em 1964. Quando ainda era um estudante de 21 anos, publicou Abaixo de zero (1985), romance que fez dele o ícone de uma nova geração de escritores, apelidada de Brat Pack. Depois vieram Os jogos da traição (1987), O psicopata americano (1991), Os informantes (1994) e Glamorama (1998), todos publicados no Brasil.
