For Carolyn Christov-Bakargiev, dOCUMENTA (13) began in 2010, and this richly illustrated publication records, like a logbook, the continuous work on recurring ideas and ways to express them, as well as discussions with artists, authors, and thinkers. Parallel to the texts, photographs taken throughout this time period are combined with Christov-Bakargiev s own cell-phone photos to reveal very personal insight into her working methods, taking readers along with her on her journey. All of these things are layered, like archeological sediments, describing the paths that lead to the actual exhibition in Kassel and elsewhere. Yet another extensive section of photographs document the works of art installed in Kassel as well as events, such as concerts and performances, that will take place in the opening weeks, offering a lively, guided visual tour through dOCUMENTA (13).
