David Lagercrantz nasceu em 1962, na Suécia. Estudou filosofia e religião e se formou em jornalismo na Escola de Jornalismo em Gotemburgo. Seu primeiro livro foi lançado em 1997, uma biografia do aventureiro sueco e alpinista Göran Kropp (1966-2002) — Ultimate High. É autor também do livro de maior sucesso na Suécia em tempos modernos, I am Zlatan Ibrahimovic, biografia da estrela do futebol sueco Zlatan Ibrahimovic, que foi publicado em mais de 30 idiomas. David Lagercrantz foi escolhido pela editora sueca Norstedts para escrever o quarto livro da série Millennium, trilogia originalmente escrita por Stieg Larsson, que morreu em 2004.
