Sinopse

Stefan Zweig (1881-1942), nascido em uma família judia rica, viveu a efervescência cultural de Viena no começo do século XX. Amigo de grandes intelectuais e artistas, desde a Primeira Guerra Mundial se tornou pacifista. Com a ascensão do III Reich e a perseguição aos judeus, autoexilou-se, distanciando-se de seu país natal cada vez mais, à medida que a Segunda Guerra tinha início e se alastrava. Refugiou-se no Brasil em 1941, mais especificamente em Petrópolis (RJ), onde suicidou-se com a mulher no ano seguinte. É autor de romances, poemas, peças de teatro, ensaios e biografias. Além de Maria Antonieta, publicou ainda O mundo insone: uma coletânea de ensaios, e Novelas femininas.
