Samuel BeckettNasceu perto de Dublin, na Irlanda, em 1906 e foi criado por uma família protestante da classe média. Aos 23 anos foi premiado por um poema titulado "Whoroscope" (1930) no qual, através do filósofo Descartes, contempla a transitoriedade da vida, tema tão recorrente em sua obra. Entre 1946 e 1953, Beckett inicia uma fase de grande criatividade, escrevendo peças como Esperando Godot (1952), contos e romances nos quais explora a impotência, a imobilidade e a solidão humanas como elementos responsáveis pelo "câncer do tempo". Murphy (1938), Molloy (1951), Malone morre (1951), Watt (1953) e O inominável (1953) são seus principais romances. Prêmio Nobel de Literatura em 1969, Beckett é um dos fundadores do teatro do absurdo. Faleceu em Paris em 1989, aos 83 anos de idade.
