Leonardo Padura Fuentes, ou simplesmente Leonardo Padura, nasceu em 1955, em Havana. Aos 33 anos, estreou como romancista com Fiebre de cavallos. Em seguida, começou a publicar a tetralogia que o consolidou internacionalmente. Conhecida como Cuatro estaciones e protagonizada por Mario Conde, um detetive melancólico e frustrado, as novelas desenham a sociedade cubana de sua época: Passado perfeito (1991), Ventos de quaresma (1994), Máscaras (1997), e Paisaje de otoño (1998). Além de romancista, Padura tem uma sólida bibliografia de contos e de ensaios sobre literatura e cultura. Seu romance O homem que amava os cachorros (2013), é um excitante romance policial que reconta a história de Ramón Mercader, o assassino do líder soviético Liev Trótski.
