Paul Auster nascido em 1947 em Newark, Nova Jersey, Estados Unidos, estudou literatura francesa, inglesa e italiana na Columbia University, em Nova York. Viveu em Paris de 1971 a 1975. De volta a Nova York, em 1980 mudou-se para o bairro do Brooklyn, onde vive e trabalha até hoje. Poeta, tradutor, crítico de cinema e literatura, romancista e roteirista de cinema, publicou ensaios, memórias, poesia e ficção.
