Alessandro Baricco (1958, Turim - Itália) é um dos mais importantes escritores italianos contemporâneos. Formado em filosofia e música, escreveu peças teatrais, ensaios e romances como Oceano mar (1993), City (1999), Sem sangue (2002) e Esta história (2005). Baricco tem carreira próspera no cinema: A lenda do pianista do mar (1998), de Giuseppe Tornatore, é baseado em seu monólogo Novecentos (1994), e o romance Seda (1996) virou filme homônimo, dirigido por François Girard. Estreou como diretor com o filme Lezione 21, do qual também assina o roteiro. A formação em música estimulou ainda uma parceria com a dupla francesa Air, experiência que resultou no disco City Reading (2003).
