Barbara Stok nasceu em 1970 em Groningen, na Holanda. Trabalhou como fotógrafa e jornalista até estrear, em 1998, com o livro de tiras Barbaraal tot op het bot, no qual retratava o próprio cotidiano. Seu traço original, sua narrativa delicada e sua maneira de ampliar pequenos detalhes da existência fizeram sucesso. Vincent é seu oitavo livro, no qual ela trabalhou por três anos, com apoio do Museu Van Gogh, de Amsterdã.
