bell hooks é o pseudônimo da aclamada escritora, educadora, feminista e ativista social estadunidense Gloria Jean Watkins, nascida em 1952, na cidade de Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Autora de vasta obra, incluindo cinco livros infantis, bell hooks investiga de uma perspectiva pós-modernas questões relativas a raça, classe e gênero na pedagogia, na história da sexualidade e do feminismo e na cultura em geral. Aluna de uma escola segregada quando criança e admiradora de Paulo Freire durante vida acadêmica, hooks defende a pluralidade dos feminismos e compreende a prática pedagógica como um lugar fundamentalmente político e de resistência nas lutas antirracista e anticapitalista.
