JOHN WILLIAMS

John Edward Williams nasceu em 1922 em Clarksville, um povoado no interior do Texas. Serviu na aviação militar estadunidense na Segunda Guerra Mundial na China, Birmânia e Índia. Recebeu o bacharelado em Literatura Inglesa da Universidade de Denver e o doutorado da Universidade de Missouri em 1954. Voltou para Denver no mesmo ano, onde trabalhou como professor assistente de Literatura Inglesa até sua aposentadoria em 1985. Faleceu em 4 de março de 1994. Além de Stoner é autor de mais três romances: Nothing but the night, Butcher's Crossing e Augustus (vencedor do National Book Award em 1972).
