Kazuo Ishiguro nasceu em Nagasaki, no Japão, em 1954, e mudou-se para a Inglaterra aos cinco anos. É autor, entre outros, dos livros Vestígios do Dia (1989), vencedor do Man Booker Prize, e a ficção científica Não me abandone jamais (2005), ambos com aclamadas adaptações para o cinema. Também foram editados no Brasil Quando éramos órfãos (2000), O gigante enterrado (2015), e a seleção de contos de Noturnos: Histórias de música e anoitecer (2009). Kazuo Ishiguro ganhou o Prêmio Nobel de Literatura de 2017.
