Copi é pseudônimo de Raúl Damonte, um "argentino de Paris", como ele mesmo se apresentava. Escritor, dramaturgo, ator e cartunista nascido em Buenos Aires em 1939, mudou-se para a França em 1962 e por lá passou a vida, falecendo em 1987 em decorrência de complicações relacionadas à AIDS. Integrante da trupe teatral fundada por Alejandro Jodorowsky, Fernando Arrabal e Roland Topor, desenvolveu vasta obra dramatúrgica e cartunística caracterizada por César Aira como um "barroco de nosso tempo". No Brasil, teve cartuns publicados pela revista Status nos anos 70, além de reunidas as peças teatrais Eva Perón, Loretta Strong e A geladeira em um volume (2007).
