Descendente de pais iranianos, Lila Azam Zanganeh nasceu em Paris, França. Depois de se formar na École Normale Supérieure aos 20 anos, mudou-se para os Estados Unidos para ensinar literatura e cinema em Harvard. Com artigos publicados em veículos como New York Times, Paris Review, Le Monde e La Repubblica, Lila fala fluentemente seis idiomas. Seu primeiro livro The enchanter (2011) é uma mistura entre ensaio, biografia e ficção em torno de Vladimir Nabokov. Em 2011 venceu o Roger Shattuck Prize for Criticism, prêmio concedido a ensaístas emergentes. Atualmente, Lila vive em Nova York e trabalha em seu novo romance The Orlando inventions.
