Carol Ann Duffy nasceu em 1955, na Escócia. É poeta, dramaturga e um dos nomes de maior projeção da língua inglesa. Reside atualmente na Inglaterra, onde é professora de poesia contemporânea e diretora de Escrita Criativa na Universidade Metropolitana de Manchester. Seus poemas, de grande variedade formal e modulação subjetiva, tratam de questões como opressão, sexo e violência. Em 2009, tornou-se a primeira mulher laureada pela rainha do Reino Unido, assumindo a missão de escrever poemas para celebrar ocasiões de Estado e eventos envolvendo a família real, como aniversários e mortes.
