Svetlana Aleksiévitch é filha de pai bielorusso e mãe ucraniana, e nasceu em Stanislav, atual Ivano-Frankivsk, na Ucrânia, em 1948. Foi a primeira jornalista a ganhar o Prêmio Nobel de Literatura, em 2015. Autora de uma “obra polifônica, um monumento do sofrimento e da coragem em nosso tempo”, segundo a Academia Sueca, em que dá voz aos protagonistas célebres e anônimos dos acontecimentos sobre os quais escreve.
