Antony Beevor nasceu em Winchester (Inglaterra), em 1946. Estudou em Winchester e na Academia Militar de Sandhurst, é discípulo do mais respeitado historiador britânico sobre a Segunda Guerra Mundial, John Keegan. Tornou-se oficial regular do 11º Regimento de Hussardos e deixou o exército depois de cinco anos para se tornar escritor.
