Bram Stoker (1847-1912) escreveu seu primeiro ensaio aos 16 anos, em Dublin (Irlanda), e acabaria se tornando um crítico teatral não remunerado na juventude. Foi apenas aos 29 anos, após mudar-se com a esposa para Londres, que iniciou as primeiras experimentações na ficção, produzindo textos deste e de outros gêneros para o jornal londrino Daily Telegraph. Após muitos anos de pesquisa sobre o folclore do leste europeu e a mitologia dos vampiros, escreveu a maior obra de sua carreira, Drácula, que definiu para sempre o estereótipo do vampiro moderno. Bram Stoker morreu em Londres, após uma série de derrames cerebrais. Suas cinzas repousam no crematório de Golders Green, na capital inglesa.
