Svetlana Aleksiévitch é filha de pai bielorusso e mãe ucraniana, e nasceu em Stanislav, atual Ivano-Frankivsk, na Ucrânia, em 1948. Foi a primeira jornalista a ganhar o Prêmio Nobel de Literatura, em 2015.
