The German artist Amelie von Wulffen, who was born in 1966 and now lives in Berlin, accomplished her breakthrough into the international art scene with presentations at the 50th Venice Biennale and Manifesta 5. Her collages, drawings, and photographic overlays are the products of experiments in biographical investigation and reconstruction. Expressive of profound longing, traumatic spaces, ruins, and objects of memory span an imaginary web of coordinates between Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, John Travolta, and her own grandmother in which she consistently emphasizes the historical dimensions of her autobiographical experience.
