Digital Fantasy Painting Workshop

Fantasy painting has a long tradition. It went through one stylistic revolution in the 1980s with the widespread adoption of the airbrush. And in the last decade, with the emergence of Photoshop and 3D modelling and rendering applications, it has gone through another. Digital tools and techniques have made it easier for artists to realise their visions, and the images that they are now able to create are more vivid, more realistic and more complelling as a result.

Digital Fantasy Painting Workshop tackles the three main categories within the genre - fantasy, science fiction and horror - and includes detailed step-by-step workthroughs to show how the images are produced. Featuring work from some of the world´s leading fantasy artists, the book explores the emerging ´tradigital´ mix of traditional and digital skills.

About the author
Martin McKenna is a freelance illustrator with a successful 15-year career. He has illustrated titles for Penguin Books, Oxford University Press, HarperCollins and Hodder & Stoughton, among others. He also has a long association with the games industry, working with Games Workshop, Hasbro, Parker games and Wizards of the Coast. He has been a development team artist with the games publisher Eidos Interactive, and has been art director for leading development studios. In 1995 he received the British Fantasy Award for Best Artist.
