A multidisciplinary artist, Ibrahim Mahama has gained an international reputation for his monumental installations made using collected materials, archives and abandoned industrial heritage that he resuscitates to construct new creations. Guided by the idea of democratizing access to art, he has founded three art centres in the northern Ghanaian city of Tamale since 2019.

For his exhibition at the Fondation Cartier, Mahama will create site-specific installations, presented alongside nine other invited artists: Dorothy Akpene Amenuke, Gideon Appah, James Barnor, the Cercle d' Art des Travailleurs de Plantation Congolaise (CATPC), Courage Dzidula Kpodo and Postbox Ghana, Zohra Opoku, Tjasa Rener and Feda Wardak. This richly illustrated accompanying publication offers an in-depth exploration of Mahama`s collective, educational and community-based practice and vision, developed through his artworks and art centres.
