Thomas Paine was a prominent English-American philosopher and political activist. Paine was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States and his influential pamphlets helped inspire the American Revolution. Paine's classics such as Common Sense, Rights of Man, and The Age of Reason, are still widely read today. Rights of Man, published in 1791, is a book that advocates political revolution when a government does not defend the natural rights of its people. Paine wrote the book as a means to defend The French Revolution in response to Edmund Burke's Reflections on the Revolution in France.
